Everything We Know About The Amazing Race Australia 2022

The Amazing Race is back in 2022 and fans can expect plenty of adventure as the show returns to its original format.
Thanks to international travel opening up again, the cast will be racing around the world in a series of challenges after the past two years limited production to Australia.
With physical and mental challenges that involve things like travel, solving clues and interacting with foreign locals, the teams will be put through their paces in this action-packed season.
Here's everything we know about Season 6 of The Amazing Race Australia.

There will be 10 teams of two who will grab their backpacks and race around the globe this year. They are:

Angel & Frankie

There are some very new experiences in store for Angel and Frankie who have never been overseas together before. After meeting at church and forming a strong friendship focused on faith, the Queenslanders are ready for the ultimate challenge.
"I'm honestly just looking forward to the adventure, the experience, and to be able to see more of the world," says former flight attendant Angel. "Travelling is my passion and Covid kind of ruined that for me for a while. So I’m so glad to be able to get out and explore more."

Bren & Anja

Vegan warriors Bren and Anja met at an animal rights activist event seven years ago. They friends from Western Australia are keen to push the boundaries and quash stereotypes, with Bren saying the motive to go on the show is "to show viewers that no matter what your age, if you have a dream, go for it.
"To show viewers that vegans are just normal people who don’t eat or use animal products or ingredients. Anyone can be vegan. For the animals, for the environment, for our health."

Chelsea & Jamus

It'll be all about striking the right balance for engaged couple Chelsea and Jamus when they compete on The Amazing Race, especially with Chelsea’s slight OCD tendencies and Jamus’ laidback approach to challenges. They're leaving behind two children for the opportunity of a lifetime that could set them up for success and allow them to buy their dream family home.

"I honestly hope to come home more chill!" says Chelsea. "I want to be able to relax in situations I wouldn’t normally. I want to let Jamus take control of situations, rather than me feeling the need to always be in control."

Crystal & Reem

Tradition and culture is very important to NSW-based Crystal and Reem who have been best friends for 14 years.
"I was brought up in a tight-knit Lebanese-Australian Muslim family," says Reem.
"My family is the greatest blessing in life. Growing up I struggled at times with my identity, but now I know who I am and every day I choose
to go beyond labels and just be authentically me!"
Crystal, who has a strong Christian faith, says she's on The Amazing Race so "to prove to myself that I can achieve anything".

Flick & Gabby

Flick and Gabby are the barista sisters from Victoria and are feeling well-prepared for the show as they physically train daily, and have a strong bond working in a cafe together every day.
"Our biggest strength is that we work together seven days a week owning a business. We know how to handle stress together," says Gabby.
Flick adds: "I hope to show the world that young women who maybe look as though they are not very hands on, can work as hard as anybody else and get stuck into any situation."

Fliss & Tottie

Fliss and Tottie have been friends since birth and are banking on their country upbringing giving them many advantages during the competition.

"I hope to make it to the final three of The Race, that would be a huge accomplishment for myself and my teammate," says Tottie of her biggest goal. "Also just doing our best even if we fail or get eliminated, then we will know we have done our best in this competition and be proud we made it this far."

Heath & Toni

Competitive husband and wife Heath and Toni are no strangers to training hard. They work out at the gym three to four times a week, plus Heath plays squash and basketball weekly, and Toni plays badminton and netball every week.
Toni, who has been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, wants to embrace every aspect of The Amazing Race experience.
"To have a once in a lifetime experience and adventure, to seize the day and grasp all of life’s amazing opportunities, to be able to travel (even with the world coping/living with COVID), to have fun and make lasting memories with Heath," she says.

Kathy & Chace

Sydney-based lawyer cousins Kathy and Chace are in it to win it.
As the children of Vietnamese refugees who came to Australia between the late 1980s and early 1990s, it's taken a while for them to develop the confidence to express their truest selves as young Asian Australians.
"I didn't always have that inner confidence," Kathy tells Refinery29 Australia, reflecting on her self-assured nature on the show and her openness on her Instagram account.

"I think everybody has their own insecurities. Deeply rooted in me to this day, no matter how successful others others might think that I am or my family is, there's always those insecurities. I post them [photos] because I wanted to go onto the show with a very strong message of 'be bold, be brave and be vulnerable'."

Tiffany and Cynthia are an aunt and niece duo from Pilbara, Western Australia. One of their biggest assets during filming was their strong bond, especially since Cynthia has lived with her aunt on and off over the years.
"We believe our strengths were the dynamic between us itself," she tells Refinery29 Australia. "We both have our individual strengths, but knowing what they were and working together the way we do because of the relationship we have as aunty and niece is what really helped us."
The contestants come from a family of strong First Nations women determined to succeed.

Former NRL player Beau Ryan returns as the host of The Amazing Race Australia in 2022 for the third time.

When Does The Amazing Race Start?

The Amazing Race Australia premieres Monday, August 29 at 7:30pm on 10 and 10 Play. It comes after the network's successful launch of The Masked Singer and Gogglebox, and ahead of another big reality show, The Bachelor Australia, which will air on Channel 10 later in the year.

Where Is The Amazing Race Filmed?

Expect plenty of interesting and diverse international locations this season, as Channel 10's official press release promises the show will take us "from the picturesque cliffs of Santorini, to the markets of Marrakech, and the tropical waters of Caye Caulker".

What Is The Prize?

In previous years the contestants have competed for $250,000 in prize money, which we can expect is the reward for Season 6 too.
The previous winners of show have been Tyler Atkins & Nathan Joliffe (Season 1), Shane Haw & Andrew Thoday (Season 2), Daniel Little & Ryan Thomas (Season 3), Tim & Rod Sattler-Jones (Season 4), and Brendon Crawley & Jackson Dening (Season 5).
